    In France, apply for housing in the first allocation wave

    Student residences are allocated in waves, and this is not a queue where the latecomer gets something worse: in a late wave there may be nothing left. The person then moves to the private market, where prices are higher and guarantor requirements heavier. We think the housing deadline matters more than the choice of residence: a place in a less convenient district beats hunting for a flat from another country.
